What is Vaccination?
Vaccination is a simple, safe, and effective way of protecting people against harmful diseases, before they come into contact with them. It uses your body’s natural defenses to build resistance to specific infections and makes your immune system stronger.
Vaccines train your immune system to create antibodies, just as it does when it’s exposed to a disease. However, because vaccines contain only killed or weakened forms of germs like viruses or bacteria, they do not cause the disease or put you at risk of its complications.
Most vaccines are given by an injection, but some are given orally (by mouth) or sprayed into the nose.
What is COVID-19?
Coronavirus disease (COVID–19) results from infection with novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and manifests as respiratory illness in infected individuals.
COVID–19 is typically spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. When these droplets are inhaled and deposited onto mucous membranes, other individuals become infected. COVID–19 can be spread whether an individual is symptomatic or asymptomatic which is why it is important to continue social distancing and mask wearing.
The most common symptoms of COVID–19 are: Fever, cough, headache, fatigue, muscle or body aches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, nausea or diarrhea.
COVID–19 can result in severe complications including: respiratory failure, organ damage, and death
